Squirrels will be persistent but add some mulch to the pot and it won’t be as much of a disturbance to the plant.

I’ve had some luck with a dusting of cayenne on the top of the soil… which now that I think of it for peppers, somewhat barbaric to use cayenne lol but cie la vie

Add some bloodmeal. Squirrels don’t like and it’s good for your plants.

With two huge oak trees in my yard, my garden area used to be inundated with numerous squirrels until I put in Solar Ultrasonic Animal Repellers and pointed them at my garden. The squirrels left immediately and stay away. That was 3 years ago, the Animal Repellers still work like champs. I got the ones with the most positive reviews on Amazon.

Okay I have these exact same holes appearing in my raised beds, and also seeds/sprouts/small plants being dug up and chucked everywhere. Very few squirrels where I am though, do you think rats could do something similar?

Mine is birds. I have deep raised beds and the worms are getting pecked. I caught them. They are digging right by the roots so deep. I am trying all kids of stuff to chase them away. Shiny stuff, smells and sticks by the plants. Ugh
