I was gifted this plant a few weeks ago when it had just started to sprout. It has grown quite well since. However, the person who gifted it said it is a pepper plant but isn't sure what type it is. Is it even a pepper plant at all?

The eggplant kind.
Definitely an eggplant
You ever run to say eggplant and see that two people ran faster?
Melanzana
This is an eggplant. Still a great veggie to grow though!
I believe it’s “Ichiban” type eggplant.
Eggplant.
Aubergine
Eggplant!
An eggplant pepper.
That’s an eggplant
I’m guessing the black beauty or other traditional euro eggplant kind
I was goimg to type “embrace the eggplant”, but thought that might be taken the wrong way… 😉
That being said, my primary garden crops are peppers and eggplant. My peppers…well, I don’t count anymore… but for eggplant, it’s a bit more reined in. I usually try and do 5-8 varieties on up to 10 plants a year. It is an amazingly versatile food. It is also the secret ingredient in my fresh pico-style salsa. 😉
But a million other recipes as well, and one my my faves for pickling/preserving. (I do a Roasted red pepper, tomato, eggplant salsa that is spectacular on literally everything <3)
EMBRACE THE…aubergine 😉
Egg plant pepper. Very rare.
Not a pepper plant OP but it’s healthy
Eggplant, same family as peppers.
Its going to make a great ratatouille
Just a heads up, because it’s not a nice surprise- some eggplant plants have spines. The top cap on the eggplant itself (it’s little hat) frequently, but sometimes also in the middle of the damn leaf ribs.
