BAYPORT, NY — A new gourmet market and eatery opened today in Bayport on Middle Road where Zucchini Natural Market was until it closed in August.

La Pizzetta Gourmet Market is celebrating with grand opening specials until 8 p.m., including free coffee for veterans.

The Italian market is the newest foray for the Mondis, an Eastport family with deep roots in Long Island’s restaurant world. The Mondis have owned and operated numerous local eateries including Luigi’s Main Street Pizza in Eastport, Piesano’s on Shelter Island, and PizzAmore in Ridge.

According to Tori Mondi, whose father, Lou, is one of the owners, the community can expect a “huge menu” of classic Italian dishes, breakfast, pastries, a coffee bar, and shelves of specialty Italian items traditional grocery stores don’t keep in stock.

“We serve authentic, no-frills Italian food. We want it to feel like you’re stopping at Nonna’s house to pick up dinner,” Mondi told Patch. “My family has been in the restaurant business on Long Island for almost 40 years, since 1987. We can cater any size party or event.”

She added that her family wanted to “bring convenience to Bayport.”

“You can come by on the way to work to pick up coffee. Stop by to pick up dinner on your way home, and also pick up some specialty ingredients to cook at home the next night,” she said. “There’s not many places nearby that give you the opportunity to do all of that.”

La Pizzetta Gourmet Market is located at 578 Middle Road in Bayport. The market is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
