So, I've posted before about having issues with temp remaining even close to +/- 25 degrees. The other day I went to cook a whole chicken and the thing did not maintain temp and eventually, no temp at all. I opened up the firebox and found it over flowing with pellets.

A few facts: 4th cook. Fresh traeger brand pellets, I cleaned out the Firefox before starting.

I really want to like this thing. ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS WELCOME.

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

I thought you weren’t supposed to put food on a Traeger until you got that 1st smoke coming out, looks like you didn’t do that & the pellets didn’t catch fire…

Did you see that 1st smoke b4 you placed your food on the grill??

I’m personally not a fan of traeger brand pellets for one.

Was your bag full of saw dust?

You need to start it on the “smoke” setting and let it come up to temp first. Then turn it up. I usually give mine 10 minutes

Looks like your igniter rod may not be working….

Did you pour them directly into the grill or the hopper?

Different grill brand, but mine has a similar style pellet pot. I had to torch the pellets in the pot to get the first burn-in started. After that the heating rod has worked every time.

When I got my Pro 34, I had this problem when seasoning the grill the first time. The fire box filled up and started spilling out. There were too many pellets to actually catch fire. I got the error code LEr, too low of a temperature.

Before any of that, I thought the hot rod was not out far enough. It was maybe right below an eighth of an inch, the minimum length. I found instructions online for replacing the hot rod. I adjusted the length of the hot rod so it stuck out just under a fourth of an inch, the maximum length.

I have not had an issue since, just the seasoning of the grill and 3 other cooks, but so far the problem has not returned.

Full disclosure, I am very comfortable taking things apart too see how they work. My instructions weren’t as clear as they could have been. Maybe look for a few instructions and watch a couple videos to get a full understanding of what it takes to get to the wires for the control panel. The wires are zip tied and you just need some slack to be able to remove the hot rod enough to get to the screw that adjusts the length it sticks out. This worked for me, it may not work for you.
