It's tiny, but I'm so proud!! I did all the research and bought the tools and starter plants and spent a whole weekend ripping up the grass and laying down soil. We got our first pepper recently!!
I hope to plant a bigger garden in the fall, maybe with carrots and potatoes. Right now we have three pepper plants growing, and four tomato plants (two different varieties). The "fence" is held together with tape and prayers.

That’s super cool, congratulations, looks great!
Excellent work on putting it together! The hardest part is always getting started 🙂 ! Now don’t forget the local weeds will love to move back in, so keep your eyes sharp and pull them when you see them. Pepper plant will also produce much more if you cut the fruits off early and even pick some flowers so it can set big roots and leaves for a larger pepper production later. Pick them often, and you will never suffer from pepper-free house :)!
That’s awesome!!!!
OP, you’re a good egg. I bet your Mom is very happy.
I raise cattle, and let me tell you, all fences are held together with prayers… good job on the garden!
Looking good! This is how it all starts. My first at 19 was about this big. 15 years later and now it’s about a 50 by 75 foot plot plus some odd fruit trees out front
Amazing work! I just started gardening this year at 39 and I feel like I’ve spent a whole lot more than one week planning our logistics, so I’d say you are both efficient and resourceful! Strongly agree on the “good egg” assessment.
Be prepared to give those tomatoes support! They will get bigger than you’d ever imagine during your first garden!
Congratulations! You’re off to a fine start! You’re also just a great kid to your mom. Have fun with it!
Amazing! Gardening does not need to be expensive or complicated. I hope your Mom tells you how proud she is of you.
Can zip ties replace the tape?
That’s so cool! It’s gonna be so awesome picking your first harvest. If you want, you could sprinkler herb, flower, lettuce, radish, etc. seeds in the empty spaces to optimize as well as keep weeds to a minimum. A lot of plants will thrive in those shady spots.
It’s just so satisfying and rewarding growing your own vegetables. Nice job. There is nothing wrong starting small and developing your gardening skills. Trying out different vegetables to see what grows is fun!
Get some free dried leaves for mulch. Mulch is important.
Your Mom is lucky! Not just because she now has a veggie garden but also because she has a daughter (or son) like you!
