KENT, Ohio — Downtown Kent is getting a new Italian restaurant as Taproot Hospitality Group plans to open Gigi’s Ristorante and Market.
Gigi’s will take over at 210 S. Depeyster Street, formerly Bricco, which closed last year.
Kathleen D’Angelo, president/owner of Taproot, named her latest project after the nickname “Gigi,” for grandma, as she recently welcomed her first grandchild.
“It’s kind of the homey feel, like an Italian grandma’s house,” D’Angelo said.
D’Angelo’s restaurant group owns wineries and event spaces, including Sapphire Creek Winery and Gardens in Chagrin Falls and Orchid House Winery in Aurora. Plus, they operate the members-only Never Ordinary Bourbon Society in Aurora, soon to open a second location in Chagrin Falls.
Gigi’s will be a more approachable price point than the other concepts, while still maintaining an elevated, yet casual feel. Taproot is in the remodeling stages, with hopes to open at the end of August.
While one side of the restaurant will have sit-down dining with white tablecloths, the Gigi’s on Stage bar area will be a bit livelier, hosting live performers and local musicians.
“We love the space. It’s a great location,” D’Angelo said.
The market will provide takeout options like wine, cheese, Italian deli meat and pre-made food.
“It’s a great grab and go for students and people in the Kent-Stow area,” she added.
