My husband bought this wheel-shaped pasta for my kids, thinking it would be fun. There were no preparation instructions so he boiled them for 10 minutes. They turned into mush! He tried different lengths of time but they always turned into the same mushy consistency. Has anyone had experience with this pasta before?

  1. You deep fry the dried shapes in oil to make a puffy snack. Like a wheat-flour pork rind.

I believe those are Mexican snacks that you deep fry and top with chile and lemon. When you toss them in the oil they puff really quickly so you don’t need to fry for long. Your kids will like watching them puff up. Look up ‘mexican duros.’

This is not really pasta in the Italian sense, they are Mexican. “Duros” are meant to be fried, not boiled, and are eaten like snacks, not dinner. They will inflate, they are tasty with a squeeze of lime and hot sauce (if you like hot sauce) or just like that.

It looks like these are duros, a Mexican snack. While they’re made with flour they’re supposed to be fried and they puff up. Pasta in this context is the Spanish word for paste.

  5. I almost asked if those were carrots (no I’m not high)

Fry them or nuke them in the microwave for 15-30 seconds. I do like 7-8 at a time.

  7. Duros de harina (also known as pasta para duros, duritos, durros, pasta para durito, chicharrones, churritos, Mexican wagon wheels or pin wheels) are a popular Mexican snack food made of puffed wheat, often flavored with chili and lemon. Duros with chili and lemon flavoring Round flour duros puff up when fried.

Any one remember when schools across the pnw did a source for middle and high schoolers to see how many kids did “wagon wheels” to see how many kids would just lie and say they had to l anyone if no one knew who it was? Kid brought a pack of these in a ziplock to school “buddy of mine beautiful family Hispanic back ground” to sell them a dollar a pop kids would buy one and say what do I do with this? He would say…. You already know now get outa here

Deep fry them. Taco Bell uses these to make their cinnamon twists. Just deep-fried and dust with cinnamon sugar when they are done.

  10. You can also microwave them! They’re healthier than fried, maybe ad a little oil and toss then microwave

Thank you so much for posting this! I also thought it was a pasta shape and didn’t like it. Thinking I’ll try it again, made properly of course, lol.

Also, thank you to the cool people who just explained it without being mean..
