Simple Sunday dinner and a new fish conquered!
8/10! Smokey, tender, flakey. Reminds me a lot of salmon lox in flavor, but more of a cooked fish texture. Great smoke flavor and not overly salty, I thought it was nice straight up. No bones or scales, though the back side of the fillets had a nice layer of skin and fat. The best part is this can was about $1.50 at my local international market. These would be a nice intro to tinned fish for those that are afraid of very fishy, stinky or oily cans. The pup’s crazy eyes let me know she liked it too.
I prepared mine with garlic cream cheese, celery, pickled red onions and lemon on toasted French bread. Served with a pickle of course!

I just had their smoked herring in oil which is similar and it’s really solid too. You can think of a bunch of Eastern European meals where it fits right in.
I agree! They’re really tasty fish at a good price, and your sandwich looks delicious!
Love Rugenfisch!
