This is the inside of my crockpot. I’ve had it for a few years and we do clean it with a regular blue sponge. Am I scratching the ceramic? Is this what it’s supposed to look like?

Looks more like food build up, I’d take a metal scrubby to it and see how it does.
Also if you ever find yourself in need of a new ceramic pot for your slow cooker I always see spares at thrift stores.

Definitely try a Brillo pad or bar keepers friend and a steel wool or letting it soak in hot water and scrub better. It doesn’t look all the way clean? Is that stuff raised up like an outward bump? If so stuck on food stuff. If it’s a dent in then it’s the ceramic that’s wearing down and you need a new one.

i would try a GREEN scrubby instead of a metal one. scotchbrite scouring pad type thing.
it will pretty much get anything off if you soak it a bit, then use it.
be careful with it though, because with great power comes great responsibility. those green scrubbies may seem chill, but they have the power to scratch things. very micro abrasive. but it should work here.

It looks like a crust along the food-line that’s built up. In cast iron we’d call it “seasoning” but with ceramic its just dirt. You could use steel wool / brillo / whatever metal you choose but you might scrub too deep and scrap the ceramic glazing. I would take the same approach as cooking with it – low and slow. Low force, slow clean.
1. Let it soak in hot water on the lowest setting overnight (warm preferred). 2. Turn off, add soap, agitate to get a buildup of suds and let it soak for an hour in that warm soapy water 3. Get a scrub daddy / mommy and scrub the buildup off. Don’t use elbow grease. Just get what you can get. 4. Let it soak in warm soapy water more. 5. Rinse / Repeat
It may take a few turns but it will eventually get clean.

I would soak it with some vinegar. Ours had some buildup similar to that, and the vinegar dissolved it

This looks like a ring of fat and hard water deposits. It happens to mine all the time and only shows up when dry. Use a lot of soap, to break up the fats, when washing or try a vinegar wash to break up the hard water deposits.

Use liners.

Steel wool this, soak in that… bla bla bla. Use a wooden spoon/spatula.

Scotch pad will scratch the ceramic coating over time. I’d suggest you use a soft nylon scrub brush.

Your water might also be incredibly hard.
