SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — If you’re craving a little Mediterranean flavor, you won’t have to go far. A local church is bringing the tastes of Greece to downtown Scranton this week.

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church is hosting its annual Greek Food Festival, a summer tradition that’s been delighting locals for more than 50 years.

From dolmades to gyros, and even homemade custard desserts like Galaktoboureko, it’s all on the menu.

The church offers both dine-in and takeout options all week long from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with online and phone orders encouraged for takeout to help manage foot traffic.

“All the recipes have just been passed down, generation to generation, since the founders of the church which is really fantastic. We’ve gotten a lot of wonderful feedback on our grape leaves and dolmades. Everyone loves the lamb. We haven’t heard too many complaints,” said Alex Molfetas, festival coordinator.

The festival runs through Saturday at the church on North Washington Avenue. All proceeds go toward church upkeep.
