That looks like a crookneck squash and yes by all means pick it before it gets any larger.

I think it is already vine ripened

Bigger ones are tougher

The smaller the better tasting. But if your goal is most amount of food to eat and you don’t care about taste as much, you can let them get huge they just get tougher

I like squash smaller, more tender. You can wait until it gets a deeper yellow and tougher skin or pull now. This is a crookneck squash

You growing that in the middle of your lawn??

if it’s not already ripe, it will be in about 12 hours

It will not turn green. It’s a yellow squash. Pick it and eat it up!

For us, straight neck squash around 8-10″ is perfect for harvesting.

You don’t want to let summer squash ripen unless you’re saving seed, they’re better young and tender. Pick them when they’re the size you like, opinions vary. I usually have to knock the faded blooms off mine, I like ’em small.

That’s straight neck squash, it’s ready

FYI, unless this photo color is off this isn’t a zucchini. If you’re asking whether it will ripen to green, real zucchini start off green and darken as they grow. It looks like you have a summer squash variety of some sort.

It was perfect yesterday!

This is not zucchini, and it is a bit over ripe. The seeds will get tougher as it ripens. You can scoop the seeds out.

My motto is to pick before disease strikes.

Not Zucchini, but his close Yellow friend.

Zucchini starts out green. The longer you wait, the less pleasant it will be to eat and the harder the seeds will be.
Kallymouse
Yellow squash is super tough when it gets big. Pick it now
