I joined this sub recently because I saw a BGE at a hardware store and remembered seeing one somewhere when I was little. They are way outside my price range though. I randomly happened to talk with my uncle (who I almost never see) last weekend about it and it turns out that it was my grandfather who had one and my uncle is now in possession of it. Long story short, I’m picking up what appears to be a medium BGE that is somewhere around 30 years old, give or take.
My uncle sent me some pics and I want to order any parts, gaskets, etc. that I might need so I can try to use it this Fathers Day. He said it looks like it was only used a couple times and still has charcoal in it! I know its hard to tell anything from pictures but I would greatly appreciate any input on things you think I need to buy before I pick this thing up!

Fantastic story. Pick it up and enjoy it. Ask if the ash tool is around somewhere, otherwise pick one up. Other than that you are good to go.
those casters are scary as shit. You should get the proper ones. The pivot should be out as far as possible on the legs and the casters themselves should be much larger. It looks like one of your bolts actually goes through the hole where the caster mount is supposed to go. Until you fix that avoid pushing this around; always pull it toward you.
You also need to rotate it in the nest so that the lower vent is completely unobscured by the nest.
Get a smokeware cap, those ones that it comes with are useless.
Also you should have a gasket around the chimney. Helps it stay on and doesn’t chip the ceramic. Should be the cheapest fix.
Not to be a downer, but do I see a fairly significant crack on the left side?
She’s a beaut Clark!
Get a Smobot.
