I was going for medium. Label said stake was rump steak. Any tips appreciated, I'm new to both grilling in general and cooking my own steaks.

Nice work. Solid medium in my opinion. Nice sear
Rump steak is going to be chewy and tough. Sirloin, New York strip, filet might be worth a look.

Do nothing differently. Good lord.

I want to get into charcoal grill but it’s so hard to control the temperature?

The meat looks juicy and charred yummy! It looks like you may have cut this into cubes? With steak always slice perpendicular to the meat fibers to keep the bite from being chewy (esp with tougher cuts like rump). Keep it up!

You did good. I love when you run into one of those little crunchy perfectly charred spots.
The best part of learning to grill is the food you eat along the way lmao. Looks good, try again anyways!

Looks beautiful! Rump steak is going to be a bit more chewy than a ribeye or NY anyhow, and certainly chewier than a filet. It’s not necessarily something you did that made it chewy, but cooking rump more rare will help. But this looks A+ and I would partake.

Cut against the grain would be my only complaint

That turned out perfect imo, especially for a charcoal grill.

Looks fantastic! Yea the lean rump cut will be a challenge to make tender at medium. Will definitely need a brine or marinade with some sort of breakdown component unless it’s slow roasted.

I’d prefer a bit more done but looks great. Hope it tasted amazing

That’s more like a Pittsburgh rare than a medium. But it looks tasty!
