Thanks to u/lexicalsatire informing me of u/Igotnolife420 looking for a +1 to join them at Sorn on my Nawa review post, I was finally able to eat at Sorn after months of failing to secure a reservation. It was a truly unique meal that I really enjoyed. I've had the opportunity to eat at some of the best restaurants in Bangkok, and I do believe Sorn deserves their accolades and reputation as a standout spot. I love bold and intense flavors, and it delivered on that front in spades.
I loved the ingredients presentation before each course, as well as the dishes oscillating between spicy and refreshing. The standouts for me were the signature Crab Stick, the vegetable salad course (I love Thai salads), the roti and green curry, and the abalone liver morning glory. Shout out to the side duck (?) egg served with the main courses as well. I also loved the petit four presentation and pairing (unfortunately forgot pictures here).
I opted for the cheaper of the pairing options (6 glasses for~4800 baht iirc) and was given generous pours throughout, including top-ups on the beer pairing and the red wine throughout the extended main course. This pairing also included a sake and vermouth, which I enjoyed as well. Pairing with food this intense is a difficult task, so I appreciated the variety displayed. I really enjoyed the Riseling paired with the desserts as well. I'm usually a bit hesitant on pairings, but had no regrets here. The service was friendly and on the ball, especially the sommelier and waitress who explained the dishes.
If I had to complain about something our table wasn't in the nicest spot, being next to the bathrooms and where staff often congregated, but I think that's a bit of the consequence of being a table of 2. Certainly didn't overshadow all the positives from this meal.
Despite living in Bangkok for the last 6 months or so, I don't often eat southern Thai food. This was a wonderful opportunity to get to experience a regional Thai cuisine that I feel is underrepresented elsewhere in the world. Often it feels like Michelin meals at this level feel a bit "same-y", but that couldn't be further from what I experienced at Sorn.
I wish the reservation process wasn't a nightmare and that I could have eaten here without random happenstance, but I'm very glad I finally got to experience it.
Thank you to u/Igotnolife420 for the wonderful company and taking photos! It was a pleasure meeting you and I hope our paths cross again in the future.

Failed to impress us tbh, didn’t you find it similar to other Thai fine dining places in the city? Maybe just us, but we didn’t see what’s special about it. It’s not bad by any means of course. If I would go blindly without knowing where I am, I would even say that it would rate amongst good 1* places but not above
