An Italian-inspired restaurant whose lavish rooftop offers views of Downtown Boston received top praise from Yelp.

The outlet named Contessa its favorite rooftop bar in Massachusetts on its list revealing Yelp Elites’ favorite rooftop bars in every state.

Located atop The Newbury hotel, Contessa’s Art Deco-inspired rooftop offers views of Back Bay and the Boston Public Garden.

“Contessa brings the gentle ambiance and lively vibes of an upscale Northern Italian bistro straight to Boston,” Yelp wrote. “You can’t go wrong with any of their 6,000 wines or a classic espresso martini. Perfect for a special occasion, the Italian fare and drinks are highly acclaimed and loved by Yelp Elites.”

Contessa has become a highly sought-after eatery in Boston since it opened in 2021. The restaurant’s food draws inspiration from the cuisine of Northern Italy. Classic dishes include Piemontese Carpaccio, Tortellini en Brodo, Ricotta Gnudi and Bistecca Fiorentina.

Meanwhile Contessa’s drink menu features several signature cocktails and spirits in addition to an extensive wine list that features Italian, French and U.S. selections.

Contessa has also received praise from Condé Nast Traveler, the Boston Globe and Boston Magazine, which wrote in a 2021 review that Contessa excels at “putting midcentury Italian classics through the ringer to spruce them up for 21st-century palates.”

Contessa is open for breakfast during the week and brunch on the weekends. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Dinner service is from 5-10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 5-11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
