I work in a subway (I know, not a real restaurant, whatever), but even then if I got an order like that I’d instantly call my boss and have him cancel it cause an order like that would fuck up the flow of any shift, that’s straight up just catering they need to call in advance and set a price and have multiple people come in early to make it

As an owner even thought we are butcher/burger joint . I’d don’t do delivery services . I have call ins and my guests . We have 16 seats and sometimes already have an hr wait . This would absolutely tank service times . Not worth it to me. We do have a women who puts in a large order for lunch for 20 ppl 1-2x a month . The first call in we let it slide after we talked to the line to make sure they could do it. We then told her please call ahead before the shop opens and you are our first order of the day . She totally understood and was happy to do so. No reason you can’t take a second to explain how flow works and you’d be happy to accommodate as long as other guests aren’t put out. Most people get it and the ones that don’t most likely you didn’t want to cultivate a lasting relationship with them anyway .

Just the other morning I’m working a lunch shift and got fucked by DoorDash lol. We open at 11 but during the week we do a bunch of catering. Usually the first order goes out around 10:30 and then you might have 4-5 more going out before 11:30. Then as soon as it hits 11 we always get dumped on with a bunch of online orders.
The other morning we are having a busy catering day, got about $3500 worth going out, and then some asshole goes online and orders $700 worth of shit to go out at 11:30. Fucked my whole day it: it took us till fucking 2pm to get out of the weeds lol.

I had a $3000 catering order going out at 11 a.m. last Friday, then a local credit union ordered like 7 meals for 11 a.m. it was ready at 11:04 and the girl out front said the lady called her boss twice in 4 minutes to tell them it wasn’t ready yet. We open at 11.
