    NKE: Not a Kitchen Employee

See, 8 hours in a hot kitchen is already a lot, but no breaks and essentially being the only person hired for the dish pit? Yeah I’m on his side, though he could have been more…eloquent about it.

wait i feel like i’ve seen this text before

  3. bakedpigeon

I’d be so pissed if I missed my bus after working longer than I agreed to. I’m with him, hopefully he finds a better job that actually listens to him

  4. Powderkegger1

I mean, his grammar needs some work but I’m on his side.

  5. LazyOldCat

The messaging is a little methy, but he’s not wrong.

  6. Bro smelled the pile of shit that you call a restaurant and decided it wasn’t for him.

  7. Nevermind2010

Yeah I’m gonna keep it real here man, no breaks and him being scheduled till 10:00 but being made to stay till 12:30am even as a dishwasher is BS. Also missing his bus? Is your manager gonna give him a ride home at midnight?

  8. Glittering_Phone_291

Yeah, I get it man. I’d be fucking livid too.

  9. guiltycitizen

If you have people that need to catch a bus that late you need to put a fucking apron on and help the dude. Or pay his cab fare

Good on him for having the means to say “fuck off with your bullshit”

This industry is full of managerial parasites and it needs to be brought to light more. There are good owners (leaders) and bad owners (managers). Unfortunately the former are few and far between

That seems more like slave work than work ,the dishwasher is right, that boss isnt giving a shit ,he did the right thing leaving

One of my friends is a brilliant business head. He was doing commercial building contracting years ago and stopped at his friend’s diner for lunch and was crying that he needed a right hand man. His friend says: The Ecuadorian dishie kid I just hired a couple weeks ago might be a good fit, he’s smarter than I am and works twice as hard. He hired the kid, eased his path to citizenship, paid him well and helped him set up his own business. He even helped him reconcile with his wife during a difficult personal period and helped them pay for fertility treatments.

FF to twenty years later, the Ecuadorian dishwasher kid and his company/connections ended up bailing him out big-time after a massive natural disaster. Moral of the story: Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.

as a dishie, you cant tell them “dish gets done at 10” when its an overburdened, chaotic job to begin with, you need to tell them it’s “we’d like like dish to get out by 11 but that doesnt always happen”

  14. IntelligentAd3781

Once again Kitchen Confidential proving that dishwashers get the short end of the stick almost every damn time. We work hard af and all we get is more work– same in every job, but with wet food and caustic special juice

  15. Giddyup_1998

So your manager is showing everyone the text?

  16. Original-Tune1471

I don’t blame the dude. Dishwashers are the heart of any restaurant and deserve to be treated like everyone else at the restaurant. It boggles my mind why anyone thinks that dishwashers are beneath them. They deserve bathroom breaks and obviously a free meal at every shift. Makes them feel appreciated and most importantly HUMAN. I yell at the top of my lungs when my staff throws shit into the dish pit. Not only is it extremely disrespectful, it’s dehumanizing for the dishwashers.

  17. getoffmylawnyahear

He turned on the voice to text option and just went off lmaooo. And honestly good for him.

  18. BrianVaughnVA

States with no break laws are basically dystopian shit holes.

If he was offered one job and was given another, yep, I’d be mad too.

I applied for a job at a hospital working at the front desk, they put me in the fucking night shift psych ward – hell no.
