The excuse on r/smoking is always “I got a family and have no time to babysit a grill!”. They have no idea what dampers are.

Did your wife still does the laundry “eco” style by the river ?

When you start your car are you still using the manual crank ?

BBQ is a hobby not life support equipment.

I am shocked by the amount of posts “doing my first grill today. Im 35 by the way”. Most of the current generation cannot cook an egg after following 10 youtube video. Instead of encouraging people to get outside , organise “old school” parties IRL, drink a beer, enjoy and learn how to use a BBQ , we get into the old elitist “bullshit” , “my ceramic is bigger than your offset” .

Those grills with electronics lower the entry point and learning curve into the “sport” by 90% .

I have friends that cannot make a difference between pork and beef meat if they see it , but nailed good 6 hr smoked ribs from the first try on one of those “electronic” bbq.

If they would’ve buy a green egg , probably they would’ve crack it on the first use.

Innovation wise is the best thing that happen in the bbq world in the past 5 years.

  3. I’ve got both. My Traeger has been running for 14 years with zero maintenance. Pellet smoker works great for long cooks and larger loads. Egg works great when heat and smoke is needed. Why judge?

Because sometimes you got other stuff going on, but still want some BBQ.
