I really want to say that I would be excited to find this. That’s usually my reaction when I see these posts.
But something about this particular one… perhaps it’s the remarkable fecundity displayed by this little fish, and I would definitely still try it to see if I liked it. But, I’m not going to lie, it’s slightly creeping me out.

People love this stuff but I only eat roe when I’m expecting it I would be unjustifiably terrified

This happened to me once during the beginning of my sardine ingesting career. Grossed me out bad, and years later I think I still would not like it one bit. Hasn’t happened again since thankfully.
At first I was like, oh sardine roe, interesting this makes sense, no problem. After a few bites i noticed it was mealy and the texture was not good to me. I finished them but yeah, wouldn’t count myself lucky for that.

I literally just got this the other day as well! Never seen anything like it before! I accidentally bit into it and it was super sour! I was obviously more careful afterwards and observed that both cans had this issue.
Just out of curiosity what brand where they? I’m really curious if it’s a particular batch issue with a particular brand so I’d love to know. I was literally gonna post about it but i didn’t think it would bring much attention. Guess i was wrong.

Noooo. I can only eat a mouthful of fish eggs if I am expecting it. If I opened my sardines and found this, I would be opening a new tin. I need advanced notice to eat fish eggs.

does anybody here know how common this actually is, & if it’s more common in larger sardines vs small? afaik I have never found unexpected roe in a can of fish in my entire life, but i do tend to stick to smaller deens…
