Hey I found this guy for $100 and was wondering if its worth it? I've been wanting an Egg to smoke on for years now but no way I can afford a new one.

This seems to be an old clay one? Not sure if it's worth it, or if I should just keep looking.
Thanks!

For $100 I’d get it just because it’s a cool old school egg.

Too rusty – needs a lot of work. I would say pass but thats me.

Wd40 the metal banding, scrub with a wire brush and rattle can it with high temperature spraypaint. Pressure wash the shit out of the outside, get a new lid. Do a new gasket and a monster clean burn and this thing will be basically brand new

Looks like it’s missing a heat deflector, wich is something you will definitely need for smoking.
You could try improvising one.. i once used an old circulair sawblade as a deflector. But it’s not ideal.

With a deflector you can smoke on this for sure.

Get some black ceramic coating and you can make it look like new too!
(Heat resistant spray paint for the metal parts, make sure u burn the paint in before cook!)

Kinda cool but be aware this isn’t just $100. You will be putting more money into this. probably better just to spend two or 300 on a reasonable used egg.

I’m no expert but my assumption is that if the ceramic is in good condition it’s salvageable but then you’ve got to ask yourself if you want to spend the time and money to fix it up. I think it could easily get expensive if you need a lot of replacement parts so then it wouldn’t be much of a deal unless that’s not a big problem and you’d enjoy the restoration.

  7. It’s missing a deflector plate so you wouldn’t be able to smoke without purchasing that piece which is another $100
