WACO, Texas (KWTX) – The owners of Waco’s Moroso Italian Ristorante have announced the planned opening of Azurro, “Waco’s first authentic café,” on Oct. 16.
The café is located next to the Moroso Italian Ristorante at 4700 Bosque Blvd. in the Market Square shopping center and will be open from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Customers can choose to either dine inside the establishment, with an Italian-inspired interior showcasing hand-blown glass art, outside in outdoor seating or can place a take-home order with “grab-and-go” services available.
The café will offer classic Italian coffee drinks as well as a variety of cold and blended drink options such as fresh juices. Azzurro will also offer the following food items: freshly-baked pastries, salads, egg bites, wraps and Italian sandwiches
The owners say the café is “the first coffee shop in Waco to offer a true Italian experience” by offering local Italian coffee brand illy.
“Robyn and I wanted to share a true Italian café experience with our community,” owner Dan Moroso said. “I reached out to Italy’s finest coffee company, illy. When they agreed to work with us, I was over the moon.”
illycaffeè (illy) was founded in 1933 in Trieste, Italy where Moroso was raised. The company is said to select only the top 1% of Arabica coffee beans grown in South and Central America, buying directly from farmers in order to “remove brokers who take a percentage of the farmer’s income.” The company also provides resources such as medical and dental care to the farmers they are partnered with.
“I think it’s the best cup of coffee,” Moroso stated. “I’m delighted to share the coffee my family has been drinking for generations with Waco.”
The Azzurro owners initally started their business when they opened their first restaurant, Moroso Italian Risorante, in Waco eight years ago. The restaurant was billed as the “first authentic Italian restaurant with Neapolitan, wood-fired pizza in Waco.”
