Some time ago, I posted here asking for restaurant postcards from Los Angeles and received kind offers from generous Redditors. Yesterday, a wonderful package arrived from across the Pacific! 😊
To u/tieplomet, who sent me this lovely package — thank you so much! I truly appreciate it and absolutely love everything you sent.
I especially enjoyed the souvenirs from Canter’s Deli and the delightful copy of its menu. It gave me a flavorful glimpse into one of LA’s iconic dining spots. I had a great time reading through all the dishes and comparing them with what we have in Singapore.
For example, buttermilk pancakes, baked salmon and onion rings are served here too, thanks to our multicultural food scene and love for Western cuisine. But sliced banana as a breakfast side, hot potato knish and pickled tongue sandwiches were completely new to me. They were pretty interesting discoveries!
While turkey is eaten in Singapore, it's usually reserved for Christmas celebrations, so it's not something you’d find on most menus throughout the year. Seeing it featured on the menu was pretty interesting too 🙂
The California license plate postcard was a very nice touch as well — and I loved the thoughtful message you wrote on the back. It made the card even more special.
The sticker pack was awesome too — and I was amazed to learn that it’s your husband’s original artwork! He’s definitely very talented.
And finally, thank you so much for the delicious chocolate — which somehow survived the long journey and Singapore’s tropical heat! I really enjoyed it. 😋
Thank you again for taking the time and effort to assemble such a thoughtful package — a true slice of Los Angeles’ cuisine and culture, sent all the way across the ocean. It meant a lot to me and made the whole experience even more heartwarming.
