Man, I cannot grow red onions. Every year I plant an equal number of white, yellow, and red onions. The white and yellow do just fine, but 90%+ of the red ones fail to form a bulb.

Congrats! I’ve never grown onions. I plan to next year. I just ordered my garlic yesterday. They should ship in October for my zone! First time for them as well.

Looks like you have a lot of experience doing this. Have you ever had trouble with wind? The onion sets I planted early this Spring (it’s now mid-summer) have grown to what seems like an acceptable size, but wind has toppled most of the crop, causing a permanent bend/kink at the top of the bulb. They won’t ever stand up again, so how can I know when they’re ready to harvest? It’s very windy here 🙁
