Surstromming, when folks hear this it brings into mind that trendy viral videos of folks repulsed by the selection and taste.
That was not my experience in the slightest.
Sure, there is a particular smell to it but this isn't like anything I expected from seeing videos online.
I was pleasantly surprised by this tin. I'm not sure if it was hype or not, but I didn't find the smell unbearable. Flavor was like a funky aged cheese.
When I first got the can, it was very bloated, worried it would explode but I placed it in the fridge and it settled down some, to where it didn't appear to be under so much pressure.
Would happily try this again.

    Those viral videos of people eating surstromming are always exaggerated for views (same applies for those durian videos).
    No one actually eats it out of the can straight. Glad you showed the proper way to eat it which is on traditional flatbread crackers and topped with other goodies to balance out the overall flavor.

    I watched a Swede eat this on YouTube. He submerged the can in a bucket of water to open it, rather than offend everyone within a 3 block radius.

  4. I always knew that people had to be overreacting and this vindicated my suspicions. Thanks for sharing! I’ll need to get my hands on a can, they’re just so expensive to ship to the US. I like funky foods like strong cheeses and stinky tofu anyway, so I’m sure I’d like surstromming.

    Iโ€™m an avid fermented food lover, but the idea of my fish being fermented too! No sir!

    What i have seen is these cans swell so much in shipping, so maybe the fridge is the trick on this? The videos iโ€™ve seen even underwater they explode on opening.

    yeah some foods like that are more like a condiment than something to eat on its own. the caviar / funky cheese comparison is apt. The ingredients you used look tasty together
