I feel I’ve had worse at times. Thoughts?

For a chain, and the price, its solid! Don’t sleep on the turkey.

It’s good. If I’m not getting a full meal, I find their loaded baked potato with brisket is a good lunch.

It’s probably the best out of the chain BBQ spots, unless you count Black’s now. IMO the best thing on their menu is the brisket breakfast tacos, and 2nd goes to the smoked turkey.

Rudy’s is… fine. It’s never mind blowing, but it’s always pretty decent (and available for dinner!). They’ve got a good formula and it’s solid. Turkey and a half a chicken are pretty good. Sides are solid.

I enjoyed the moist brisket with the bread and pickles i think i ate like 5 “sandwiches”. The ribs i tried were so so.

  6. Only visited the ones around Austin and San Antonio but think they are the best chain BBQ. Fast service, solid and dependable product, and fairly priced in my experience. Fan of the breakfast tacos.

If you like lean brisket, keep in mind Rudy’s default is to cut off the bark (the old-fashioned way). However, an employee filled me in one day that if you order it “cut from the toe, with black,” they will cut it from a fresh brisket and leave the bark on.

8.99 for a solid double meat brisket sandwich that comes in at about a pound… is it the best bbq? No. Can I make better? Yes. Do I eat it 10x more than I cook a brisket? Yes. Unbeatable for the price. Typically where we always go when we have a big group. Feeds everyone at an extremely reasonable price. Love Rudy’s

To be good BBQ you need to better than Rudy’s. If you’re worse than Rudy’s you need to shut down. It’s the ultimate baseline.

Rudy’s is the best chain bbq you can get. Sure, the non-chain restaurants will likely be better than Rudy’s, but you shouldn’t compare non-chain restaurants to it.

Compare Rudy’s to its chain competitors: Dickeys, Spring Creek, Sonny Bryan’s, etc.

When comparing Rudy’s to those other chains, it very easily destroys the competition.

  11. The turkey and pulled pork from Rudy’s is good as hell

It’s the bar for acceptable Texas bbq. below that line you are bad, at or above it you are making serviceable or decent bbq.

    good turkey and sides.

Man Rudy’s and Cooper’s are my two go-to BBQ chains. At Rudy’s, I get the lean and moist brisket mixed and make white bread tacos. At Cooper’s you gotta get the Dino rib dipped in their thin sauce. So delicious.

I grew up 20ish minutes into the hills from the original Rudy’s. It was right next to the original Macaroni Grill, they finally closed because it floods so much there. Anyway, we used to get their turkey for Thanksgiving when I was a kid lol. I grew up loving Rudy’s. Was low key pissed when they went big, and I’ll maintain that the OG location is the best, but they’ve stayed pretty true.

  15. Rudy is the neutral EQ setting on your stereo. You can use them to calibrate pretty much everyone else. Rarely will you get a bad cut of anything from them. Rarely will you get anything amazing (really good is more normal).

As others have said their Turkey is good. Depending how long it’s been sitting their pork loin can be quite good. Ribs can be hit or miss.

  16. Big picnic tables are great when friends get together.

  17. It was a go to for BBQ in central TX years and years ago before the BBQ restaurant boom. It ws considered really good but obviously the bar has been raised by all the pit master restaurants. They are solid and consistent for a chain, and have breakfast tacos. We had them cater my high school graduation party lol.

  18. Fit_Bake_3000

We enjoyed it. We’re not BBQ experts , but brisket was tasty. It’s been about 7 years so…. I’d go back!

  19. Cold_Tower_2215

The sausages are good. The ribs are not great.

  20. sweetsueno

Everyone in austin eats Rudy’s all the time even if they don’t admit it. Love Rudy’s, got nothing bad to say about it. Cheerful service and consistent.

Honestly the best deal is going in the morning for brisket, egg, and cheese tacos for like $4. Huge portions. Solid place but not the best bbq.

  22. fakeassradio

The best hangover breakfast! I miss Rudy’s.

Living within 1-1.5 hours of a lot of the best BBQ restaurants in Texas and having eating at a lot of them I like Rudy’s. If I don’t want to spend 100$ for the fam to eat BBQ and get something quick it’s great. The sides, tea and desert are good. I ate their breakfast almost everyday for a long time when I lived in Austin and it’s good.

Solid choice for quick and not ridiculously expensive BBQ. Also 10X better than Bill Millers and most other chain BBQ places.

  24. Just-Prize1709

Solid. It’s the BeeGees of BBQ. Nobody hates it; it’s nobody’s favorite.

  25. Due_Combination_968

Rudy’s is solid if not necessarily inspiring. they’re big win is consistency of their brisket in my mind

  26. maestrosouth

Best of the chains by far. Doesn’t hold up to the talent of others in the area.

  27. I’m a fan. Good bbq without waiting in a line for hours.

  28. meanjoegreen82

This is the only legit “chain” BBQ spot I’ve been to

  29. Odd-Dog9396

Best chain I’ve ever had. It’s not even close.
