Had the great pleasure of opening this ‘86 Lafite-Rothschild tonight with turkey burgers. Simply spectacular.

Decanted for 2.5 hrs. I tried it immediately on open for comparison. On the nose it was young, bright, acidic. On the palate just pure teak, cedar, forest, and no fruit flavor. I wasn’t worried!

With patience, this perfect wine opened spectacularly. Still heavy wood and earthy notes on the nose but the taste is an elegant blend of raspberry, plum, caramel, cedar, and a hint of truffle. Just incredible. Tannins completely mellowed. Such a treat!

Purchased from a private dealer for $950. Happy Monday!

    Wow, what a killer vintage!

I had the 1984 vintage recently. Horrible year for most of the left bank, but was really impressed with what Lafite produced.

  2. Amazing! How did it pair with turkey burgers? Not going to lie, seems like a strange pairing to me, but I suppose it’s ultimately subjective.

    Shun knife as well?

  3. Great, I’m saving this up for my next birthday!
