LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Extension La Crosse County brought healthy eating education directly to the community Monday with a hands-on cooking demonstration at Kane Street Community Garden.

FoodWise nutrition educators showcased how to prepare nutritious recipes using vegetables and herbs harvested directly from the garden plots. The educational session highlighted seasonal ingredients and provided practical cooking techniques for community members.

“We come out to the Kane Street Garden to showcase one of their vegetables and help teach people what to do with it and different ways to create recipes,” said Karie Johnson, FoodWise coordinator for La Crosse County.

The demonstration featured a new recipe designed to highlight different seasonal ingredients available at the garden. Following the cooking session, organizers distributed free fresh produce to attendees, connecting education with access to healthy foods.

Kane Street Community Garden serves as both a food production site and educational venue for La Crosse area residents. The garden provides space for individual plots while hosting community programming focused on sustainable growing practices and nutrition education.

The next recipe demonstration at Kane Street Community Garden is scheduled for Monday, July 14th. The garden is located at 809 Kane St. in La Crosse.
