Title says it all. Vortex arrived this morning and the stars aligned. Wife bought chicken legs and asked how to cook them. Say less!

Had her do a quick marinade 2hr tops and got home and got the charcoal going before I took the work shoes off.

I never liked chicken legs in the oven. Bought the Vortex for wings but knew legs and thighs work from following this sub.

Even have the charcoal baskets, and yes, the vortex just hits a little bit different. Will reserve the baskets for half and whole chicken, until I get a rotisserie 😉

Start to finish, less than an hour (chicken already marinated) from when I got home to when I pulled them off. Love my Weber!

P.S. No comparison to skin on baked v. skin on grilled. Can’t wait to brine some chicken this week for the 4th!

I love the vortex style. Easy and delicious. Looks good.

I just got a vortex and an SNS deluxe. I didn’t know I was supposed to put the wood on top of the grates and not in with the coals!

Also, that looks amazing. Can’t wait to give it a whirl.

Got my vortex last year and man! I wish I got them sooner. Love making wings with this.

    1. Looks amazing.

    2. The wood chunk on top is interesting. Have you also tried with the chunk buried in the charcoal? If so, have you noticed any difference? Putting it on top certainly is more convenient, and I’m thinking it might also be better for wings that it didn’t fully burn through.

  5. I just cooked drumsticks like that about two weeks ago. I think I liked them better than the wings! Happy grilling.
