Washington, D.C. (7News) — Founder and President of Ravenna Pizza Mustafa Durran and Marketing Director of Ravenna Pizza Raha Durran visited Good Morning Washington on Thursday with classic Italian dishes.
Durran calls the creation of his restaurant “a project of passion”. On a trip to Rome just a few years ago, husband-and-wife-duo Mustafa and Raha Durran fell in love with Roman cuisine and culture after the first bite. And just four months ago, they opened Ravenna Pizza in Arlington.
Roman pizza is different from Sicilian or Neapolitan, which are more popular in the United States, says Durran. Revenna imports authentic Roman flour from Italy, and their dough-making process takes days of work. The result is a dough that is light and airy, creating the perfect flaky pizza crust.
The Ravenna Pizza menu offers classic flavors, as well as signature items such as four cheese, crostino romano and dolce inferno, which they top with hot honey, all of which feature authentic Italian ingredients.
Before starting the restaurant, Durran served as a military translator and cultural advisor in Afghanistan, what he calls “some of the best years of my life”. The Durrans say they’re “grateful” to be living out their American dream, now as restauranteurs.
Ravenna Pizza is offering a special buy-one-get-one 50% off deal for July 4.
