Had this gem the other day from Tenuta Travaglino. I definitely think people need to talk more about Italian Pinot from Oltrepo Pavese. Cool climate and bang for your buck. Light body, crisp, mineral and just really elegant. Darker fruits than burgundy but at fractions of a price compared to French rivals.

“French rivals” lmao. I’m sure many estates from Bourgogne would love to rivalize with 10 eur wines.
Yes, it is sarcasm.
I get it. I just find pleasure in the small unknown producers and find the world of wine much more interesting straying away from the typical Top 50 idolized producers. Just thought I’d share a value everyday drinking wine.
I don’t know that I’ve ever had an Italian Pinot. I love Pinot and Italian wine, but i don’t think that’s a common combination at least in my local stores. Where do you find it?
Given the prominence of posts of $100+ wines getting C+ ratings on this sub, I hope you enjoyed this wine thoroughly.
I will add my two cents that all Italian wine other than Etna is overrated.
Why not just try nebbiolo, it’s pretty close?
Big fan of Italian Pinot Nero, I recently enjoyed a bottle from Cantina Terlan up in Alto-Adige and it was intensely mineral, bright reds fruits with a pinch of floral uplift. A well made wine for a fair price, we all enjoyed it. Cheers!
Don’t let anyone here yuck your yum. If you enjoyed this bottle, there are some stellar Pinots coming out of Alto Adige in Northern Italy. You’ll have to pay more than the price of this bottle but certainly worth exploring.
There are no cool climate zones anywhere in Italy and certainly not south of Milan. The best pinot noirs in the country are from alto adige.
Tenuta is a stellar producer. There’s over 10,000 grapes. Most people only know of 10. 100% underrated
Jermann makes a killer pinot nero. Wilhelm Welch for the cheap and cheerful days.
