I've grown Tabasco for 3 years now. Upon biting into my first harvest of this season, the anxiety inducing pain from this pepper has me doubting it's Tabasco. I've never ate anything this hot before. If it's Tabasco, why is it so frikin hot?

  1. Look like a Thai variety but then again so do Tabasco so unfortunately idk if the internet is gonna be able to give you a definite answer. Tobasco should be way spicier than a jalapeño but nowhere near a habanero if that helps narrow it down

Tabasco have juice inside them. They’re the only pepper that does. When you bite into a Tabasco pepper, it’s like biting into a tiny juice bottle, it should spill its juices inside your mouth.

I bought something at a plant sale called Thai dragon chili and they look like this. They’re hot.

I have this same plant. Did they never turn red? Am I waiting on nothing? Lol.

  5. Tabasco peppers are literally the easiest to ID. Cut one in half, lightly squeeze it, and tip it over. If liquid drips out, it’s a Tabasco, if not it’s something else. I’ve been growing various pepper varieties for over a decade. Heat levels can vary drastically year to year even of the same species. I’ve had jalapeños as hot as habaneros and habaneros as hot as ghost peppers occasionally.

    Nah I think that’s the Chili’s mascot

I’ve raised Tabasco before & never noticed juice inside .

  8. Definitely not tabascos. From the calyx, these look like some type of capsicum annum. Tabasco is a capsicum frutescens, and the part of the calyx that covers the end of the pepper is almost cylindrical.

Imo I never thought Tobascos were really that hot. Thai pepper deem hotter me.
