Celebrating the 4th (and my b-day) with family and our host asked if we should open an old bottle she’d had forever. She pulled out this bottle of 1967 1er Grand Cru Classe and asked if I thought it would be ok. Based on the ullage and the condition of the cork top and foil, I recommended everyone to temper their expectations. After wrestling with a blackened cork, I was able to successfully extract the cork and poured myself a taste. Clarity? Perfect. I started to get excited. Swirled and sniffed and found lovely aromas of tomato, earth, herbs and cigar box. I couldn’t believe that this wine was still in such great shape. We all enjoyed a glass (with burgers lol) and marveled at this 58-year old bottle of Right Bank. Such a treat.

As the old adage goes “there are no great wines, only great bottles”.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Absolutely love Gaffeliere wines! Went to the winery a few years ago, great experience. Hope you thoroughly enjoyed that bottle.
