Mackerel is my #1 lunch option, and today I deviated from my typical—and also #1—King Oscar to give Patagonia a shot.
It’s a nice tin! Firm, but tender fillets, and each came out of the tin whole. The flavor is pretty mild, with very low salinity and very subtle garlic flavor. You’ll like this if you want to eat tinned fish, but don’t like overly fishy flavor.
Loved this over warm rice and some salad with a sherry vinaigrette. I strained out the garlic from the oil onto the fillets, and I topped liberally with Slap Ya Mama (red container). It also paired well with Melinda’s Habanero.
Good stuff! I’ll still stock up on KO, but don’t regret trying this by any means.

These aren’t very garlicky at all – it’s noticeable if you’re looking for it, but extremely mild. For what they cost (I think MSRP is $8, but I bought mine on sale for around $6) you’re likely better off buying store brand mackerel at $3 or less and adding some garlic powder.
