    Not to be that guy but the bun is good enough to eat on its own anyway.

    Isn’t it like a tradition? The one who gets the “empty” one would be lucky/unlucky (depending on the belief) in the future.

  4. This is how the buns at my local Chinese bakery look like. Bi buns with an ever shrinking quantity of filling.

    Does anyone have a good recipe for bao that comes out similar to this? I had bao once at a beerfest 15 years ago that was one of the best things I’ve eaten in my life. Have had VERY mediocre bao every time I have seen it since. These remind me of that one good one.

    At this point it’s almost vegetarian. Why not go the extra step and leave out the meat. They won’t taste/find it anyways. Smh…

    During Luna new year I do this with my friends when making dumplings. Instead of an empty dumpling we put chilli flakes. Whoever gets it needs to eat the whole thing, it’s pretty funny.
