After a decade of business in Shirlington, family-owned Italian restaurant Osteria da Nino will close next month.
The restaurant’s last day at 2900 S. Quincy Street is Sunday, April 20, the Pino family owners shared in a Facebook post this weekend. It will offer Easter brunch and dinner service before closing for good.
“It’s been an amazing run. We’ve been there for 10 years and love the neighborhood,” owner Nino Pino’s daughter, Giovanna Pino, told ARLnow. “I love all the people … we’ve loved every day.”
‘This was not a light decision’
The cost of an extended lease was too high for the restaurant to continue operating, Giovanna Pino said.
“We want you to know this was not a light decision on our part,” the family wrote on Facebook. “We have spent the last year searching for a new location within the neighborhood or discussing future possibilities with our current landlord.”
The restaurant started as a wine and cheese shop
Sicily native Nino Pino opened the restaurant in 2015. He has also managed D.C.-area Italian restaurants Primi Piatti, Fellini, Palio and Zeffierelli
After closing, the Pino family plans to conduct a guided tour of Sicily this spring.
In the meantime, Giovanna Pino and her mother, Jinder Pino, are considering starting a new catering business to continue feeding their “Northern VA famiglia.”
Before closing, the restaurant will host wine tastings this Saturday, March 29 and Wednesday, April 2.
The Pino family will remain reachable on Instagram, Facebook and email, Giovanna Pino said.
