Amateur baker but learned from my grandparents who apprenticed while still living in Europe. They used to own a bakery of their own which is where most of my techniques come from. I've only ever made cakes for free as gifts for friends and family, but I wonder if anyone thinks they might be worth charging something for (even if it's just supplies). Money is tight right now as a college student so a couple extra bucks would be so nice if I could swing it, but please be honest as I would hate for someone to be disappointed by what I give them. Thanks in advance!

Wow, if they taste as good as they look you should do well.

Looks pretty and very professional. Obviously we don’t know how it tastes. I say go for it!

Assuming the taste is there, I would pay for them. The chocolate cake looks especially good. If you were looking for any areas in which to improve, I would practice the roses some more. Yours aren’t bad, roses are just difficult and take a lot of practice to really get perfect.

Definitely. I would make sure about selling products from your home. Check what licenses are needed. And those cakes look incredible. Also, make sure you look at the cost of your goods. 👍🏽♥️

Are they moist and tasty? Because they’re beautiful, so if the flavor is on, then you definitely have a shot

Not without seeing the cross section of any of these!

Looks good, make sure you can sell cakes from home in your area. Where I live you’re not allowed to.

  8. They’re beautiful. You learnt from your grandparents, you learnt well. Fashion has moved on a little with younger people which with your skills shouldn’t be a problem. The current styles are simpler and require less skill than you clearly have. As for your chocolate cake though I wouldn’t change a thing!

I will say that for me flavor is king. Especially for “simple” flavors like chocolate or vanilla (things I can easily make at home that taste amazing), the flavor and decor will really have to be over the top. Your decor is lovely, so I’d just really make sure you have your textures and flavors down to set yourself apart! To sell out of your kitchen (I.e., get customers who will go out of their way to buy from you versus a grocery store or large bakery) you kind of have to get people to buy into you as a brand. Unique flavor combinations, quality ingredients, business model that supports a charitable organization, etc are all possible avenues to set yourself apart.

They’re gorgeous cakes. If they taste equally amazing you absolutely should sell them. Be sure to check out what you need to be a home bakery where you live. Each state seems to have different requirements.

  11. They look so good! I’d buy one for a birthday or something.

Looks so nice! What type of icing do they have?

  13. Yes you do, but use a smaller tip for borders.

These look amazing and I’m guessing taste amazing too, I’d say yes.

I make cakes for people, but it truly is a labor of love. I use expensive ingredients, make everything from scratch, and oftentimes it takes me several days with refrigeration times, etc., and many hours to produce just one beautiful cake. My thing is that I really only bake for friends as a favor, because I usually just charge them for ingredients, and if they want to add extra for me, great. If I also charged for my time, a cake would be several hundred dollars, and no one is going to pay that. Plus, I feel like the minute my hobby becomes a brand and/or a business, the joy I get from doing it would almost immediately be sucked away.

  16. You learnt from your grandparents, you learnt well. You have a high level of skill. Today’s younger generation prefer something a little more simple though. This shouldn’t be a problem as the skills required are way below your current level. Nevertheless, when it comes to your chocolate cake I wouldn’t do a thing!
    Go for it.
