After a really long day of trying to keep the ship afloat at work, in one of those days where hostelry hits the harder and you question yourself if your passion for being a somm is enough to keep on working that many hours, at least it’s cool to have a glass of something this good to remind you why you’re doing it.
Envínate is one of those projects where you cannot find a single bad one. Some are good, and some others are amazing. This one is on the really cool side. Ribeira Sacra, stiff hills, almost 90% Mencía, probably my favorite Spanish red grape. Nose is earthy and fruity, but not on the burgundy or barolo styles, but on its own. Pillory everywhere, pure picota nose, lavender, chalk, prunes. Everything crispy and crunchy but savory. Somehow lactic, it feels deep, layers beautiful the soils and the fruits. Some burnt spices. Tannins are silky, smooth, they look older than they are, fluid, you can just recognize them when you try to find them. Spectacular.

Sounds great and love Mencía. Tough days come and go, but one of the best things about wine is that it can always be special and cheer you up whether good days or bad!
