A popular Italian restaurant in Belfast has revealed it will close its doors later this month.

Il Pirata, located on the Upper Newtownards Road in the east of the city, announced the shock news on social media on Thursday afternoon.

Renowned for serving beautiful, hearty Italian dishes, Il Pirata opened its doors in late 2011 and occupied what was previously a KFC. Down the years it’s been known as a great spot for a relaxed dinner or lunch with great variety on the menu, perfect for all the family to enjoy.

In a statement, the restaurant confirmed it will close its doors for the final time on Sunday, July 27.

They added: “After an incredible journey, we will be closing our doors to our restaurant for the final time on Sunday, July 27th. This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right moment for us to close this chapter with pride, gratitude and a full heart.

“To every customer who walked through our doors – we thank you. You were all part of what made this place so special. To our amazing team past and present – thank you for your passion, talent and dedication. You made this more than a restaurant, you made it a family.

“Although it’s the end of this particular journey, it’s also the beginning of new adventures. We’ll be pouring our hearts into every last service right up until 27th July. If you’d like to join us or have a gift voucher to use, we would love to see you. With all our love Il Pirata.”
