I recently "discovered" soy flakes, but I'm not sure if they are a healthy food or not.
Similarly to oat/rye/barley flakes, soybean flakes are minimally processed – if I understand correctly, they are only lightly heat-treated and cut into flakes.
They are so easy to use and taste fine, but I'm wondering if there are any downsides that I might be missing?
Example product: https://www.forestwholefoods.co.uk/product/organic-soya-flakes/
Thanks!

Wow that is really interesting – I’ve never seen that before or heard of it.
Was perusing the reviews and everyone was saying they add it to their muesli, but I was thinking it might be good for some of the stuff that the company actually mentions in a reply to someone’s “we didn’t like it comment” – that it might make a great thickener for sauces ‘n’ stuff.
*”Soya Flakes are versatile and can be used in dishes like curry and so we wondered whether they may be less dry in something with a sauce like this. Additionally, the soya flakes can be used as part of a gratin topping for dishes and so perhaps this might utilise the dry texture of the flakes.”*
Products like these are great to have to *add* to stuff, but I wouldn’t eat them as staple food or anything like that. But super interesting, though. I’m going to look for some now.
EDIT – OK, I tried searching for it and it didn’t come up but immediately I get TVP. In the US I think we just call it TVP (textured vegetable protein). It isn’t necessarily “flake shaped,” but it’s basically the same thing (I think).
This comparison may or may not help:
