” The Italian Cuisine is often considered one of the healthiest in the World.Medical research consistently show that people who follow this kind of diet tend to live longer. So,this kind of diet, the least low rates of calories exist,” Ambassador Natali emphasized.

The Week is a worldwide initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, aimed at promoting the tradition of Italian food and wine.

This year’s Week will focus on the “Mediterranean Diet and Cuisine of the Roots – Health and Tradition”. In Kenya, Nairobi and the coast will host key events which will take place in a series of selected establishments. The renowned chef, Luca Mastromattei, “Ambassador of the Italian Taste in the World” and Michelin guide chef (present in Kenya on courtesy of Qatar Airways), will be the special guest of the Week.

Furthermore, this year the Embassy in collaboration with Jambojet will launch the promotional campaign “Taste of Italy”, a promo whose main objective is to create awareness about original Italian products and recipes, as well as about the Regions of Italy in which the great traditional products that make our Cuisine a worldwide heritage are produced.

“The Mediterranean diet is not to be understood as a diet in the strict sense we are accustomed to use and hear the term nowadays. It is a way of life, deeply rooted in a millenary tradition. The Mediterranean diet brings health, joy, and togetherness to all those who embrace it, and represents a lifestyle which connects us to our roots, to nature, and to each other,”H. E. Roberto Natali asserted.

The Program Of The Week

The program includes scientific talks, podcasts and social events, with a specific attention given to Italian products and their impact on the diet. The Kenya Nutritionist and Dieticians Institute (on November 21st) will host a workshop (in hybrid online-in presence format) dedicated to the Mediterranean diet and its benefits.

Throughout the Week, the supermarkets “Onn The Way” on Limuru Road in Nairobi and Blue Marmalade in Watamu will promote Italian food and wine. Moreover, participating Italian restaurants will dedicate specials dishes made with traditional recipes and ingredients to their menus, and the popular transports “Tuk Tuk” in Malindi, Diani and Watamu will display the photo exhibition #FollowItalianTaste.
