**2020 Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion Rouge, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux**- This bottle is a special one for me as it was my “aha!” Bordeaux. Back in 2016 I tasted a bottle of the 2005 and it was the first bottle I’ve ever had that really showed me what Bordeaux was capable of.

No relation whatsoever to Haut-Brion, this Chateau grows Cab Sauv, Merlot, and Cab Franc on gravelly, sandy soils.

The nose is an intoxicating blend of dark cherry, dark raspberry (if that’s actually a thing), with hints of blue fruit, leather, cocoa, rose hips and more.

On the palate the wine is medium-full bodied with smooth tannins and the same dark cherry, dark raspberry, but the blue fruits are more pronounced, and the it has a beautiful stoney earthiness that strongly suggests a sense of place, along with a gorgeous persistent finish.

Easily one of my favorite mid-tier Bordeaux and one that definitely gets overlooked in my opinion.

I just bought a bottle of the 2016 vintage yesterday. Interesting wine with decent qpr.
