What Happened Today In The Nebraska Garden July 5, 2025

What happened today in the Nebraska garden? We’re just a week into July and the harvests will not stop coming. I might have picked these cucumbers a little early. They could definitely grow to be an inch or two bigger, but cucumbers are some of my favorite food that I grow in the garden, so I just couldn’t help myself. And there are plenty of cucumbers that can keep growing before I harvest them. I was so happy after my harvest that mother nature decided to rain on my parade. But honestly, that just made me happier. I love gardening in the rain. It makes me feel like a kid again. So, I went and picked a ton of cherry tomatoes. These have been producing for me non-stop and I have a feeling that trend is going to continue. Just like these zucchini, the plants are getting a little older and the squash bugs have started to take over. I even saw a squash vine borer moth the other day, but I’ll keep harvesting until the plants give up. Squash grows so quickly that I can plant a couple of seeds here soon and I’ll be just fine by the time these ones are done producing. Subscribe for more garden updates.

  1. When did you plant the cukes and which varieties? I feel like mine in Omaha are miles behind where yours look to be! Maybe i started them too late to harvest in July.

  2. Hi. Whatโ€™s that white thing on your cucumber leaves? I planted both from seeds and sapling still no sign of a single one. Same with tomato large busy plants few yellow flowers. I shook the plant every morning. I did add nitrogen, water, drip irrigation, milk jug, 6 hrs sun, mulch, twine, stake, shade cloth, trap plants, companion plants(merry gold, , basil, garlic, dill, garlic etc) compost and now phosphorus. I just want to cut everything and dump all my plants and clean my backyard and forget about gardening at all.
Only thing growling is my bush beans and runner beans that also not that bountiful
