This was one of the meals I remember most from my trip to Japan in 2024. The dish is called Tendon – rice topped with crispy tempura. Just look at that huge tempura prawn! It was crispy on the outside and soft and sweet inside. There were also tempura veggies like sweet potato, mushroom, and green beans. Everything was crispy but not greasy.

The rice underneath had a bit of sweet and salty sauce, which went really well with the tempura. I sat at the counter, right in front of the kitchen, so the food was hot and smelled amazing. The bowl also came with a small bowl of miso soup.

I’ve had tempura before in others country, but eating it in Japan just hit different. It wasn’t anything fancy or expensive, but because I ate it in the right place at the right time, it tasted better than usual. Definitely a meal I’ll remember for a long time.
