STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – The Food Truck Fest at Stevens Point’s District 1 Brewing was created to give local businesses another opportunity to generate more money and develop their brands.
District 1 wanted to make sure the food trucks had another opportunity to make themselves known in the community.
“It’s not about us,” District 1 Co-owner Chris Gethers said, “This is about us reaching out into the community and offering up our space for some other businesses to try and make a go of it.”
Trucks come from all over, from as close as Stevens Point, all the way to Appleton. The vendors were happy to have another opportunity to earn more revenue with their food trucks.
“To have a space where we can pop up for free, especially as a small and upcoming business, it means so much,” ‘Wandering Elixer’ Owner Kayla Wellbrock said, “You know, for us, a couple hundred bucks means a lot.”
Wellbrock started ‘Wandering Elixer’ in 2024. The company specializes in making mocktails, catering to an audience of non-drinkers who still want to feel like they are drinking with friends.
Wellbrock said she recognizes that Wisconsin has a large drinking culture and is thankful for the opportunity that Chris Gethers and District 1 are providing her, despite being a bar.
“I was so surprised to see such great feedback from people,” Wellbrock said, “I think that our zero-proof community is actually really growing here in this area.”
District 1 does not profit from the Food Truck Festivals. Instead, they offer the food trucks a free space to set up. Typically, events charge food trucks to set up on their grounds.
Gethers says that if any food trucks do well while they’re at District 1, he asks for a small donation to help pay the musicians who play at the event. The donations also help District 1 rent out the chairs, tables, and garbage bins they use for the festival.
The festivals take place at the beginning of May, the middle of the summer, and Labor Day weekend.
The food trucks are open rain or shine, and they stay open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
