I love onion soup because I love onions.
But this voice over needs to STFU about AFRID.

Most of the time that’s not a choice, it’s not something that people want to do.

Most people don’t like going someplace and not being able to have something to eat.
Most people don’t want to feel safe Eating only like three foods.

” Oh just try and eat it anyway crowd”
    Can also shut up.

People with AFRID Don’t want *Every Single Meal Time* to be the equivalent of.
‘Just try sticking your hand in this bucket of cold putrid, guts animals guts, you might like it, you don’t know until you try it’.

Maybe one day they will try the food that you recommend.
But it has to be a good day and it has to be in a setting where they feel safe to do so and to try new things.

And if you know someone with AFRID, constantly pestering them to try new stuff. Doesn’t make you a safe space to try new things. It makes you a source of stress.

    Anyway holy shit rant over

I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never had French onion soup as an onion lover. I want it to be good and not just, eh.

People who hate onions would rather forgo a delicious thing that they almost certainly love the taste of. It’s wild to me, but it’s a fact in my life. No matter how the onions are prepared, my partner loves the flavor of onions in broth and roasted meats and blended into mashed vegetables and sauces, but as soon as they can perceive the texture of an onion in the food, they claim to no longer like it and will make a big show over avoiding every onion, and piece of lettuce and anything that even remotely looks onion shaped…and then slurp up the left over broth that is basically cooked just onion water.

Onion soup can be a hit or miss. Depending on how well the onions are good. Never made it myself but I’m sure it takes practice

French onion soup actually sucks and I hate that I hate it.

I prefer to stick with straight raw or flat iron grilled

One time French onion soup brought me out of a very deep depression

Why is every post on this onion sub seemingly “hey guys do you like this onion and/or onion heavy recipe? The answer is probably gonna be yes

Honestly /uj this video is cringe. Food and texture sensitivity is a legitimate thing that can’t just be convinced away. In fact, I feel like a lot of the r/onionhate rivalry basically boils down to that. Some people are built different, we don’t gotta understand it but we do need to respect it.

ok /rj force feed them onions like Homer Simpson in hell til they change their mind

Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean you have to be a rude butt about it. Why are you embarrassed? If you’re embarrassed over the fact that someone is unable to eat out due to food sensitivity then you should take a good hard look at yourself. Try to be a bit more compassionate and understanding.

Also going with something that is heavy in the ingredient they hate is a slap in the face. I LOVE onions. My husband hates onions. I’ve managed to add a bit of onion to dishes as long as it’s sweet onion that’s been soaked in cold water and cooking it into a dish with other ingredients and it doesn’t play a prominent role. Husband has found he doesn’t mind that. I would never make French onion soup for him. Why? Because he would hate it and i love him and respect his tastes.

I like onions but I don’t like onion soup much

RIP Mimi’s Cafe. Best French onion near me. Covid killed her too soon.

I will eat triple extra onion on my burger but I’m just not a big fan of French onion soup. I guess I’m only an onion-liker if I strongly prefer raw onions to cooked 😭

FYI that food avoidance and restriction is a form of mental health disorder.

Not here to stir the soup, just a heads up that a lot of us are embarrassed to be “the weird one” at the table.

And that’s why I’m here. Onions are one of my safe foods.
