Planted jalapenos last year. Was very happy with how they were doing already. Started to realise two days ago that they aren't jalapenos. I've seen more people pop up here with the same kind of realisation.

Here is what might have happened:
-I might have mixed up my seeds and planted the hungarian wax pepper seeds from last year (which I thought I hadn't saved as I didn't like them)
-They might be hybrids from the cross pollination between my jalapenos and the hungarisn wax peppers
-Maybe the worm castings I used had a bunch of hungarian wax pepper seeds in them. I also got tomato seedlings from trying to propagate only jalapeno peppers and there have been some tomato seedlings sprouting up around my roses and other garden beds.
-Least likely: the jalapeno seeds I bought were labeled wrong

I think you just had mis labeled seeds, it’s pretty rare for an accidental cross breed of hot wax and jalapeños unless you were dusting the flowers
