Anyone who cooks knows that fat carries flavor. Without fat, many of our favorite foods wouldn’t be able to soak up all the wonderful spices, aromatics, and seasonings we use to zhuzh up our cooking. Because who enjoys eating a plate of flavorless food?
Here at Allrecipes, we believe everything tastes better with butter. Whether it’s deep-diving into all the different types of butter in stores or settling the debate on which type of butter works best in which cooking scenarios, we love butter so much that we’ve even endorsed tossing in a whole stick to make chicken and rice.
Our favorite kinds of butter are creamy, velvety, and rich, without being greasy. Not only do they provide ample fat for flavor to cling to, but they also shine on their own when slathered on a humble piece of toast. From Costco’s Kirkland Signature Grass-Fed Butter to Vital Farms’ ultra creamy European-style butter, we certainly have our favorites.
And when one of our favorite brands takes home an award at the oldest and largest dairy show, the International Cheese and Dairy Awards (ICDA), we can’t help but gush about the news.
Kerrygold’s Unsalted Butter Crowned Winner at 2025 International Cheese and Dairy Awards
Allrecipes / Kerrygold
Kerrygold recently won a gold medal title for its Pure Irish Butter Unsalted in the “Unsalted Butter Open to Non-U.K. Producers Only” category at the ICDA. Since the ICDA takes place in England, some of the categories are divided into “Within U.K.” and “Non-U.K.”
Kerrygold is famous for its European-style butter made from grass-fed cows. This combination yields an extra-rich butter with a subtle hint of tang and noticeably yellow color. It has a higher butterfat content than American butter, making it exceptionally silky, flavorful, and possessing a unique mouthfeel that really sets it apart from other butters in stores. Our editors swear by it, alongside Allrecipes Allstars, Martha Stewart, Stanley Tucci, and countless chefs.
And that’s not the only Kerrygold product to win an award. Kerrygold Spreadable with Maple Syrup and Cinnamon also took home silver and bronze titles in the Flavored Butter and Dairy/Butter Spread categories. The flavored butter features Kerrygold’s signature Irish butter mixed with maple syrup and cinnamon and softened for optimal spreading on a slice of bread, buttermilk biscuits, waffles, baked sweet potatoes, or whatever your heart desires.
While Kerrygold’s Salted Butter didn’t make the cut at this year’s ICDA, we still wholeheartedly vouch for it. Think about it this way: The fats we use for cooking absorb into our food, creating a base flavor that influences the overall dish. So, the more flavorful the fats we start with, the more delicious the outcome is, whether that’s a floral olive oil or a tangy pat of butter.
In short, fats matter. And lucky for us, Kerrygold butter products are available at major grocers nationwide, so we’ll always have delicious butter right around the corner.
