Looks like a lil’ chunky ghost. I’d take it trick or treating for Halloween!

Pardon my ignorance, but assuming improved heat retention? 🤔

  3. I wasn’t aware of welders blanket until now but I think I’ll have a few uses for it. Thanks OP

I hope you continue to post updates on how this works for long cooks. Thanks for posting this.

I’ve been thinking of doing the same for my smoker so I can get temps over 200f in the winter. Glad to know it works!

Hmm, the heat retention makes sense. But what about smoke? Is less able to get out around the lid, and instead flow out through the top vent only? This looks jank AF, right up my alley, and they just opened another Harbor Freight nearby, and this gives me a reason to go check it out.

Would this make a difference with low and slow applications? Like would it be harder to maintain lower temps or no?

Better grab that green lawn mower and get to cutting that grass while it cooks! Lol

I’ve been doing this for years but with the full fiberglass blanket and not covering the top. I’d personally not want that thing cut or frayed near my food.

By skirting it around the lower half and down to the ground, it’s a very effective wind blocker for me.

Gotta respect the hack but ‘almost Kamado level is a big claim. Have you run a proper side-by-side, or is this just from feel over a few cooks?

Yes the harbor freight welding blanket is a game changer. I’ve used them on my WSM’s for several years. Helps regulate temps in the winter smokes or when it is windy by keeping heat in and wind out. The thing I find entertaining is go read the reviews at their website. 99% of the comments are people using them to insulate their smokers vs actually welding. 🤣

If that’s fiberglass, just make sure it’s not shedding. If that get’s on your food, that is bad.

  13. You need to do something about the cut ends of the fiberglass. Little bits will make its way into your skin and food as you handle it

  14. HomeOrificeSupplies

I do this too, but I kinda hate it. There is definitely fiberglass shedding off mine. Makes me a bit paranoid. It does the job, but I’m going to get a proper blanket.

I had a kamado and never got good bark because the charcoal doesn’t burn much. I would rather use more charcoal and hickory/apple to get a good bark
