Kroger Sandy Shores (Summer Collection) – an imaginative combo, inventive mix in, but lame coconut flavor. A bit bland.

Ok y’all got me curious to try these Kroger pints. I went to Kroger today and saw this Summer Collection was nearly sold out. Retail $2.29 and on sale $2.00.

Only a few pints left. 1 of the Fireside Nights, 4 of Sandy Shores, and like 10 of the Italian Style Summer Fizz. Was that one bad or something? It sounded good: blood Orange sherbet, popping Candy clusters. Verdict?

Anyway I love salty pretzel so tried Sandy Shores.

Kroger Sandy Shores pint

• Texture – ok so this Kroger brand is the cheaper store brand below their Private Selection. I wondered if it would be a better version of the Kroger Deluxe ice cream since it’s in a pint. Sometimes brands make them denser, more luxe. But no it’s pretty much the same. Not mad at it because I don’t mind Kroger Deluxe ice cream (even the frozen dairy desert is fine to me). But yeah. The same.
• Blue coconut flavored ice cream – Well there wasn’t that much coconut flavor. Not bad tasting. But it was not coconut cream like Helados Mexico Coconut ice cream bars, which are my favorite. It was coconut like those low calorie squeeze tubes that you add to drinks to give them flavor. Reminded me of one by Stur (their pineapple coconut flavor), but not as bad. It wasn’t bad tasting, but not the real thing. The turquoise blue color was pretty though.
• Sweet and salty pretzel crunch – Actually a generous amount of mix in. And has more flavor and texture than even Ben and Jerry’s Netflix and Chilled pretzel swirl. More buttery. And more sandy, like a pretzel slurry. But like in a nice, creative way that reminded me of the beach. And the name of the pint, Sandy Shores.

***Rating: 6/10. People can pass up this flavor because it’s not actually a great flavor combination or a great coconut flavor either. But, it is an interesting concept. Points for imagination and an above average mix in.

• Pitaya Smoothie Bowl Blue Coconut & Pineapple – it’s a smoothie bowl not an ice cream. But does also has blue coconut. Can actually taste the coconut cream. Has little coconut shavings too. Also a pineapple swirl that tastes like fresh off the farm pineapple juice. Bright colors!
• Helados Mexico Coconut ice cream bar – my favorite! Used to find these at Dollar Tree in the single bars. Not recently. But super creamy coconut cream with lots of coconut shavings. An amazing bite.

If you like crushed pretzel swirl try:

• Ben and Jerry’s Netflix and Chilled – a popular flavor!
• Giant Eagle Strawberry Pretzel Twist – not much strawberry flavor. But a very good value 48 oz if you like the crushed pretzel of Netflix and Chilled. Pretty much the same.
