Recent owner of a Big Joe here, only two weeks old. Based in the UK where there has been a heat wave for the last couple of weeks, in that time the red piping has already started to turn pink from sun damage. Checking the website I’m surprised at the quoted statement, I’ve seen complaints that it fades. But I was not expecting that to happen in less than two weeks in the UK.
What must it be like for those of you living in actual hot countries?
I don’t see how they can possibly back up the guarantee made, anyone ever complained?
I’ve resorted to liberally coating mine in Fabsil UV & waterproofing agent, hopefully that should do the trick.
How disappointing on what is quite an expensive item.

I had the same experience. I ended up buying a knockoff version from Amazon and the quality is way better. I don’t know how KJ gets away with selling such a poor quality product at a premium price.
Mine looks brand new after 2 years, but I dont use it often, since it traps the humidity inside the grill and causes rust and mold. It just hangs on my fence and provides housing for Spiders
Mine is gnarly and grey after two ish years.
Mine is still black after 3 years, but the red is indeed pink. Apart from that it’s a quality cover
UK here was completely grey and faded to pink in under a year. Komado is on sun trap patio but I see zero UV resistance or protection
Mine leaked so returned, bought one from Kamado covers on eBay, it’s great quality
Mine is entirely washed out and is a very light ashy grey
Bought my cover in May and it’s greyed quite a lot. My gas grill sits beside the BJ and its cover is years old and as black as the day I got it. I am very disappointed in the quality of the KJ cover.
I got my KJ in March with a cover. Haven’t put it on once. Was thinking i would over the winter months, though.
Seems like it doesn’t actually achieve much?
My first one turned gray and crusty after about 2 months (red piping literally rotted off), was replaced under warranty. The replacement one turned gray and crusty after about 2.5 months, I still have it on there and just accept it looks like crap. Ironically I have a cheap Amazon cover on my Blackstone that has stayed jet black for going on 3 years, right next to my Kamado Joe.
My cover faded like crazy after a few years.
Good joke in the description there.
Mine is almost completely faded less than 2 years in.
It’s not ripped or anything, so holds up well in that way.
Certainly won’t keep its color though.
This topic comes up often. Seems to me that KJ has at least two different OEM suppliers for their grill covers and no one knows which one is in the box.
I have KJ covers for the 4+year old junior and not only isn’t gray, but its also hard shaped like the junior. Can literally stand upright on the ground without the junior. The 3 mo th old BJ3 is showing signs of wear but the red stile turned pink quickly. If I need another cover, I’d get aftermarket cheap ones. I bought a light colored one for my Napoleon and it doesnt show signs of any wear
Still black after three years of hot Australian sun here. Piping is a little faded, but whatever:
Covers like these should be seen as consumables designed to protect the things underneath for five-ish years. They’re the sacrificial anodes of outdoor furniture.
3 years faded a tad Red is more pink but the form and fabric is holding up – hot summers and -20 Winters so far so good…
